Tantalum is a rare metal with a grey-blue appearance. Tantalum has the atomic number of 73, melting point of 2996℃, boiling point of 5425℃ and density of 16.6g/cm³. It has excellent corrosion resistance, good ductility and is resistant to most acids. Tantalum has moderate hardness and ductility, and can be drawn into thin wire foil. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is very small. Tantalum has excellent chemical properties and high corrosion resistance.
Nowadays, the largest consumer of tantalum is the electronics industry, which accounts for up to 60% of the total demand. In the electronics industry, tantalum is conventionally used in the manufacture of capacitors. Tantalum could also be used as heat exchanger, transmitting tubes and high power tubes.
