MnCu Alloy

Manganese copper is a kind of precision resistance alloy, usually supplied in wires, but also a small amount of plates and strips, which has a wide range of uses in all kinds of instruments and meters, at the same time, the material is an ultra-high-pressure sensitive material, the upper limit of pressure measurement can be as high as 500 Pa. Manganese copper has a good piezo-resistive effect and is widely used in pressure measurements in high-temperature and high-pressure environments such as explosion bombardment, high-speed impacts, dynamic rupture and synthesis of new materials. Manganese copper resistance change and external pressure is approximately linear function relationship (i.e. piezoresistive coefficient K is nearly constant), and resistance temperature coefficient is small, by manganese copper as a sensitive element made of sensors, can be realized by the dynamic high-pressure pressure measurement is converted into the measurement of manganese copper resistance change.
The piezoresistive effect of manganese-copper alloys has been used to measure pressure for more than 90 years, and in the 1960s, Fuller and Price, Bernstein and Keough were the first to apply manganese-copper sensors to dynamic high-pressure (shockwave) testing. After years of research shows that, although the piezoresistive coefficient of manganese-copper alloy is not very high, but because it has a high sensitivity, fast response, good linearity, resistance temperature coefficient is small and so on, it is very suitable for the production of ultrahigh-pressure force sensors. Its effective range of 1 ~ 50GPa, is currently the upper limit of pressure measurement of direct pressure sensors, widely used in the study of elastic-plastic wave propagation characteristics of materials, dynamic fracture, layer cracking, phase transition, explosives and other aspects of the blast. However, defense, military and other special sectors urgently need to higher pressures for direct measurement, and the sensor is required to have a very fast response. The research progress of Mn-Cu sensors in these two aspects is briefly summarized [1].
Cu-Mn alloys are widely used damping materials and belong to the category of thermoelastic martensitic phase transition. This type of alloy in 300-600 ℃ for aging heat treatment, the alloy organization to the positive martensite twinning organization, and the positive martensite twinning organization is extremely unstable, when subjected to alternating vibrational stress will occur when the rearrangement of the movement, so as to absorb a large amount of energy, the performance of the damping effect .
