Low pressure environmental protection titanium alloy plasma electrolytic oxidation process

Rich Special Materials Co.,Ltd. (RSM) is a sputtering targets widely used to surface treatment such as magnesium, aluminum and titanium. Here we report an environmentally friendly  process using a nitrogen-containing electrolyte and low voltage (120 V) to form uniform, adhesive and porous oxide coatings ~12 µm thick on the surface of T1 titanium alloys. We evaluated the effect of nitriding by comparing the coating with an alloy treated in a bath without nitrogen-containing compounds. Both groups of samples had a basalt-like morphology with obvious changes in the pore structure. Analysis of the composition shows that the coating is mainly a composite material of titanium oxide and silicate. The T1 Ti alloys treated with nitrogen containing electrolytes also contain TiC and TiN. This is the first report on TixOy, Ti-Si-O, TiC and TiN composite coatings produced using a single  bath without carbide/nitride nanoparticles. The bandgap of a coverage indicates the functionality of the visible light. The use of nitrogen-based compounds in the  bath increases the hardness of the oxide layer, but leads to the formation of stress cracks, which may be the reason for the decrease in the corrosion resistance of nitride- and carbide-containing coatings.
