Application of titanium alloy target in aviation

The speed of modern aircraft has reached more than 2.7 times the speed of sound. Such a fast supersonic flight will cause the aircraft to rub against the air and generate a lot of heat. When the speed of flight reaches 2.2 times the speed of sound, the aluminum alloy can’t stand it. High temperature resistant titanium alloy must be used. Next, Expert from RSM Technology Department will share the reason why titanium alloy targets are important in the aviation field!

When the thrust to weight ratio of the aeroengine is increased from 4 to 6 to 8 to 10, and the compressor outlet temperature is correspondingly increased from 200 to 300 ℃ to 500 to 600 ℃, the low-pressure compressor disk and blade originally made of aluminum must be replaced with titanium alloy.

In recent years, scientists have made new progress in the research of the properties of titanium alloys. The original titanium alloy composed of titanium, aluminum and vanadium has a high working temperature of 550 ℃ ~ 600 ℃, while the newly developed aluminum titanate (TiAl) alloy has a maximum working temperature of 1040 ℃.

Using titanium alloy instead of stainless steel to make high-pressure compressor disks and blades can reduce the structural weight. Fuel can be saved by 4% for every 10% reduction in aircraft weight. For a rocket, every 1kg reduction can increase the range by 15km.

It can be seen that titanium alloy processing materials will be used more and more in aviation, and major titanium alloy manufacturers should devote themselves to the research and development and production of high-end titanium alloys to ensure a place in the titanium alloy market.
