Advances in Decorative PVD Chrome Coatings on Resin Substrates Product Finish

This article discusses a two-layer selective plating process that combines a specially formulated UV-curable basecoat and a sub-micron thick PVD chrome topcoat. It illustrates the testing protocols for automotive manufacturers’ coatings and the need to control internal stresses in the coating substrate. #research #vacuum steam #surf
Over the past decade, significant efforts have been directed towards the creation of an environmentally friendly alternative to the decorative coating of Cr + 6 on polymer substrates. Cr+3 is an alternative but lacks all of the wear and color properties of Cr+6 that surface engineers and designers expect. This article discusses a two-layer selective plating process that combines a specially formulated UV-curable basecoat and a sub-micron thick PVD chrome topcoat. It illustrates the testing protocols for automotive manufacturers’ coatings and the need to control internal stresses in the coating substrate.
